My Approach
Physiotherapy in Canada has become an excellent alternative and adjunct therapy to many medical and non-medical health interventions. However, different physiotherapists may practice within various frameworks and may provide different styles of therapy. Read below to see what you might expect from a 1:1 session with me.
My Guiding Philosophies to Care
My goal is to provide you with exceptional, comfortable, and effective care. My style of treatment and my approach to physiotherapy is guided by the principes of: Patient- centered, Hollistic, Goal-driven, and Self Management.
Patient -Centered
Patient-centered physiotherapy is an approach to care in which the physiotherapist focuses on the individual needs, preferences, and goals of the patient. I work collaboratively with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that takes into account the you unique circumstances, beliefs, and values. You, the patient, are viewed as an active participant in your own care. The goal is to provide care that is holistic, compassionate, and responsive to the your individual needs.
Hollistic
I take a comprehensive approach that considers you as a whole person, including your physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects, rather than just focusing on the specific injury or condition being treated. I acknowledge that all aspects of your life can affect your health and well-being and I seek to address all of these factors in your treatment plan. I will work with you to identify any lifestyle or environmental factors that may be contributing to your condition and develop a treatment plan that addresses these factors in addition to the physical symptoms. The goal is to promote your overall health and well-being, rather than just treating your symptoms.
Goal Driven
I will work collaboratively with you to identify specific, measurable, and achievable goals for your recovery. Your treatment plan will then be developed around these goals. Throughout the treatment process, we will regularly assess your progress toward your goals and adjust the treatment plan as needed. Having clear goals to work towards will keep your motivated and engaged in your rehab, giving you a clear sense of purpose and progress. By focusing on specific, measurable goals, goal-driven physiotherapy can also help to ensure that the treatment is effective and efficient.
Self-Management
I do not have magic hands. In fact, no single physiotherapist does (and any who tell you they do, are lying). My goal is to get you to your goals in as few sessions as possible, this means that I work to teach you many self-management strategies so that over time you will become more confident in your own ability to manage your pain and injury, and less reliant on passive manual therapies. Empowering you to learn about your body and take steps to become more self sufficient will save you time and money in the long run.
